These are not your grandmother’s paper dolls.  This is a workshop exploring the techniques and materials Polly uses to make her signature “paper dolls.” Students will work with a wide variety of templates of body parts, combining them into figures plain or fanciful.  As part of the process we will explore color, pattern, and texture, and new ways to achieve rich effects using simple materials. We will also explore ways to articulate the figures, and how the simplest alterations to gesture can add depth to the finished work. In the end, students will have a finished figure mounted on a background that grounds the figure in reality or the veriest flights of fancy. The process involves cutting with a craft knife so dexterity and hand strength are essential.
