July 24 – August 9, Mondays & Wednesdays –

This class is designed to create individual experiences within the context of a studio class – in effect a group of “Independent Studies”.  Students will work with Michael to determine their individual goals and direction for their paintings, both conceptually and technically, with extensive one-on-one coaching all along the way.  Color, light, and the construction of an image will be discussed as well as how those elements affect the conceptual implications of an artwork.  The studio group will have regular critiques and discussions together in an environment meant to cultivate personal and artistic growth.  This will help students improve their painting and sense of color while refining their artistic vision.  Each student should come to the class with something specific in mind, whether executing a series of paintings, a singular, more ambitious painting, or preparing a body of work for gallery submission or college admission.  Michael won’t teach you how to paint his way, rather to help you find your way.  All levels welcome, from beginner to advanced.
