July 25 & 26 – Learn to create the Copperplate Script—a beautiful style of formal script writing. It evolved during the Victorian period and is very useful for invitations and envelopes, stationery, place cards, and many others. Historically, it developed as a kind of business script. Its frequent use is evident around Nantucket in the many displays of ships’ logbooks and other historic documents that are commonly seen on the island.

In this class, students will be taught the script alphabet, and they will create beautiful documents using the traditional tools: a pen that is dipped in an inkwell and an oblique pen holder, which has been specially designed for this lettering style.
